Climate change is increasingly recognized as a significant global challenge, with substantial implications for food security, particularly in rural areas. Sokoto State, located in northern Nigeria, is one of the regions most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, including erratic rainfall patterns, rising temperatures, and desertification. These environmental changes threaten agricultural productivity, which is the primary source of livelihood for rural communities in the state.
Climate change has already led to disruptions in food production, reduced crop yields, and a decrease in food availability in Sokoto State, directly impacting food security. Rural communities, which rely heavily on subsistence farming, are particularly at risk, as they lack the resources and infrastructure to adapt to these environmental changes (Aliyu & Mohammed, 2024). This study will investigate the effects of climate change on food security in Sokoto State’s rural communities, focusing on the challenges faced by farmers and their coping strategies.
Food security in Sokoto State’s rural communities is under threat due to the adverse effects of climate change, including unpredictable weather patterns, reduced agricultural productivity, and growing food insecurity. Despite the severity of this issue, there is limited research exploring how climate change is impacting food security in these communities. This study seeks to investigate the relationship between climate change and food security in Sokoto State, focusing on rural farming communities.
This study will focus on rural communities in Sokoto State, particularly those dependent on agriculture for their livelihoods. Limitations include difficulties in measuring the long-term effects of climate change and potential challenges in obtaining accurate data on food security.
